Materials for continuous improvement
In order to continually improve our products and services, we repair and reshape parts while assuring that our polymer or plastic solutions meet the customer’s needs.
Dielectric and lightweight materials
Plastics and polymers have various properties, including lightweight and dielectric properties. It means that the material cannot carry the electric current. For this reason, it is sometimes used as an electrical insulator.
High chemical resistance
Just like UV light, some chemicals may cause damage to the parts:
• either by degradation of the material in direct contact with a product,
• either by migration of a substance in the material.
A material is chemical resistant, when on contact, there is no alteration of its appearance, i.e. there is no color change, no staining or degradation of abrasion or scratch-resistance.
Low moisture absorption
Plastic materials used in building applications include a low moisture absorption. Water and moisture modify the size of the finished parts, reduce the rigidity values and also alter the electrical insulation. Dimensional stability of a material, on the basis of climatic conditions, is a precision requirement.
High mechanical strength, low density and stiffness
The density of non-foamed plastic materials is significantly lower than that of metals, with 1:2 as average value. The density of a polymer is directly related to its degree of crystallinity. On the other hand, the stiffness and mechanical strength increase with this degree. Formothane can help you to better understand the plastic properties. Do not hesitate to contact us.
Superior thermostability than that of metals
A thermostable plastic maintains its properties at high temperature (-120° C to + 500° C). A material is thermostable when there is no degradation at a given temperature while at this same temperature, similar materials are distorted or destroyed.
Self-lubricating: reduce the costs of repair and maintenance of industrial machinery
Plastics may replace a mechanical component and provide self-lubrication. Using them in mechanical engineering to support and guide, for rotating parts or transmission shafts, plastic parts improve performance by reducing the friction between the surfaces in contact.
The rolling resistance is greatly reduced, allowing a greater bearings load and a greater rotational speed, thus better efficiency of your machinery.
Abrasion resistance
Plastic materials are abrasion resistant and are different from other materials because of their high wear resistance and their low coefficient of friction. For applications where extreme abrasion resistance is required.
Low coefficient of friction
Because of their natural properties, many plastics often provide self-lubricating characteristics, because they have a very low coefficient of friction. These include nylon, acetal, Teflon®, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), and UHMW-PE.
